OKW beat companies from all over the world to win the highly respected iF product design award 2009 for its MINITEC hand held enclosures.
The iF design award is one of the world’s most important prizes in applied design, a much-coveted and recognised hallmark of quality on the international design stage.
OKW’s award-winning MINITEC enclosures are highly tactile multicoloured companion housings for remote control devices and other hand held electronics.
MINITEC plastic enclosures can be carried as keyrings, worn around the neck as pendants on lanyards or attached to the wrist with comfortable elasticated straps.
Typical applications for MINITEC include remote control systems; electronic ‘keys’ for security, emergency and alarm systems; radio and infrared control; detection/monitoring and personal safety devices.
These ABS enclosures have been designed specifically for the clinical and social fields, which is reflected in the high quality of the materials used.
The MINITEC range of hand held enclosures revolves around two basic types, the rectangular ‘E’ and the droplet-style ‘D’ hand held enclosures.
Six different sizes of MINTEC are available – offering a vast array of more than 170 model and colour permutations. Sizes range from 51mm x 32mm x 13mm to 84mm x 53mm x 19mm.
Each enclosure comprises a top and bottom section separated by a soft and tactile intermediate ring. Tops and bases are moulded in off-white or lava grey ABS or black infra-red transparent PMMA (UL 94 HB). Intermediate rings are moulded from soft touch TPE in four standard colours: volcano grey, orange, lime green and bright blue. The rings feature moulded eyelets or strap loops for fitting the accessory key ring, wrist strap or lanyard.
OKW Gehäusesysteme Technical Manager Egon Weinlein said: “With its elegant and unique design as well as its functional values, MINITEC superbly reflects the needs of users.
“This has now also been evaluated and recognised by an independent, international jury. The evaluation criteria include quality of design, workmanship, choice of material, degree of innovation.
“We are proud to have received this award, for the design of our products plays a very important role for us,” he added.
Award-winning MINITEC was designed by Martin Nußberger of Polyform Industriedesign of Munich.
